Research@Elm Clinical Testing

Types Of Studies We Conduct

Purpose: We test how well experimental or marketed antiperspirants work at reducing sweat. This study involves sitting in a “hot room” with a temperature of 100°F and 30-40% humidity. We collect sweat from your underarms using absorbent cotton pads during an 80 minute period.
Duration: These studies typically involve daily participation at our site for 5 consecutive days.

Purpose: We test how well beauty care products moisturize the skin, specifically targeting participants who have dry skin. You will have instrument readings taken at up to 6 areas on your lower legs and then have your legs washed with various products. The instrument measurements are repeated after the wash.
Duration: These studies typically involve participation at our site for 1 day.

Purpose: We give you a test product to use for a short time at home (usually around 2 weeks) to validate the product is safe to use or for specific skin type such as sensitive skin.
Duration: These studies usually involve 3 visits to our site over the course of 2 weeks.

Purpose: We test how well hand wash products remove bacteria from the skin. You must avoid the use of all antibacterial products for approximately 1 week and then come into the lab where you will have bacteria applied to your hands and then washed off your skin.
Duration: These studies typically involve up to 3 visits to our site over the course of 2 weeks.

Purpose: We test how well deodorant products work at reducing body odor. You are required to go for approximately 10 days without applying any antiperspirant or deodorant and then have your underarms evaluated by our trained odor judges. You will then have product applied to your underarms over a series of days and finally have your underarms evaluated again.
Duration: These studies typically involve up to 7 visits to our site over the course of 3 weeks.

Purpose: We test how long fragrances from personal care products last on the skin. Our trained odor judges will evaluate your forearm or underarm after washing with a test product or having a test product applied.
Duration: These studies typically involve up to 3 visits to our site over the course of 2 days.

Purpose: We test how well experimental or marketed shampoos, conditioners, serums, and leave on products work on the scalp.   These studies involve either in lab use of a product or products are taken home to be used for a period of time.  During the lab visits the scalp will be evaluated for dryness, redness, and instrumentation measurements will be completed.

Duration: These studies typically involve a single day visit or can have three visits over a two week use period of the product being tested.
